Acharya RRK Murthy is a household name in all Christian families. They have respect for him for his sermons over radio and television channels. All his life, he has been in service of God. God has been using him for his work for the last 50 years. Even today at the age of 84, he is continuing to take the Word of God to the unreached millions.
More than 50 years ago, a miracle happened in his life. The Lord chose him and saved him from an orthodox Hindu Brahmin family.
It all happened quite unexpectedly. He was working as a language teacher to Christian missionaries. They wanted to learn Telugu because no one in backward Mahaboobnagar district understood English. Their need was not knowledge of Telugu but be able to communicate with people in rural areas in their language. Since they would be taking the word of God to them, they wanted Dr. RRK Murthy to teach them using John’s gospel as the text book. Without a second thought, he walked into Jesus Christ and since then there was no turning back for him.
He was asked to read through John’s gospel in the New Testament. As it was his job, he began reading the book. As kept pouring over the book, God began working in him. He spoke to him through the book. He realized that the book that he was holding in his hands was no ordinary book. It was showing the way ahead for him in his life.
In the initial days of his change in life, it was tough for him. The rigid traditions of the religion and the caste that he came from threatened him. But he held on with the result that his caste and religion had excommunicated him. But he was not unnerved and instead declared that he himself was excommunicating his religion and caste.
Despite odds, he kept on doing God’s work. The most significant of his service was teaching the entire bible, verse by verse through Trans World Radio (Viswavani) for the last 25 years. He authored several books and composed thousands of songs.
